Easily accessible mountain with a magnificent view!

It takes two hours to reach the summit by a relatively easy route. However, the panoramic 360- degree views from the summit are fantastic. Mt. Tengai is popular for daytrips and with families.
From the summit, you can see many main peaks of the North Alps and the Tateyama Mountain Range. You can also view Mt. Ontake and Mt. Hakusan.
The mountain trail is like walking through a tunnel of greenery.
The beauty of spring greenery and autumn leaves offers breathtaking scenery.

This area is commonly known as Yamanomura and was selected as one of the 100 most beautiful and culturally-rich villages in Japan.
It retains the unspoiled scenery of a Japanese traditional mountain village.
Although the trail is well-maintained, about 40 minutes from the trailhead is a steep section where tree roots ripple through the ground like stairs.

From the Kamioka-cho, Hida City, turn left 250 meters from Komatome Bridge in Kamitakara-cho, Takayama City along Route 471. Proceed on the large forest road.
After descending Yamabuki Mountain Pass, you will reach the Yugao roadside rest area.
A parking lot is located on the other side of the road.
The trailhead is about a 15 minute walk from the parking lot. The large road is closed in winter.
